The Dianthus barbatus, also known as Garden Pinks, is a perennial or biennial plant that produces delicate and frilly pastel-colored flowers in shades of white, pink, purple, and bicolor. These flowers gracefully sit on top of gray-green grass-like leaves and emit a lovely jasmine fragrance, which is highly attractive to butterflies. This plant forms clumps, making it ideal for use as a border or ground cover, and it also makes for an excellent cut flower. Although commonly treated as an annual, this plant can survive for multiple years. To grow it in the first year, it is advisable to start it indoors early and transplant it after the last frost.
