At Seed Nerds, we are a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for gardening, sustainable living, and the preservation of heirloom open-pollinated seeds. Seed Nerds was founded by Amy and John, two friends who wanted to create a business that would provide high-quality, non-GMO, and heirloom seeds to home gardeners and farmers alike.
Our mission is to educate and inspire people to reconnect with their food sources, and to help preserve the diversity of our edible plant genetic resources. We believe that each seed tells a story, not just of our history, but also of our future. According to the FAO, since the 1900s, 75% of the world’s edible plant genetic diversity has been irreversibly lost. In the U.S., this figure is a staggering 95%. Once a seed variety is lost, it is lost forever. By growing and offering only open-pollinated seeds that can be saved and shared, we aim to help keep these stories alive for many generations to come.
We are committed to sustainability, and our 50-acre farm serves as a trial and demonstration garden for the many varieties of seeds we offer. We also partner with local beekeepers to set up honeybee hives and with free-range chicken farmers to provide help with pest control and composting. We strive to make use of all the abundance that our farm brings by sharing with friends & family, canning & preserving, and using much of what we produce in our products including our lip balms, soap, and raw honey.
At Seed Nerds, we offer a wide variety of open-pollinated heirloom seeds, including vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Our goal is to create a community of passionate gardeners who can share their experiences and knowledge with one another.
