Mexican Elderberry, also known as Tapiro, is a perennial deciduous shrub that can be found in canyons and valleys in the West. It is the most drought-tolerant of the Elder species and can grow in a variety of soil conditions. The shrub produces umbels of creamy yellow flowers during summer, followed by edible purple berries. Mexican Elderberry is easy to maintain and its wild form supports a variety of wildlife. The berries are great for making jellies and pie fillings.
