Cucurbita maxima, commonly known as Big Max, is the giant of the pumpkin patch. This variety boasts a bright orange, round to flat-round shape, and can weigh over 100 lbs. Big Max is a multipurpose pumpkin with delicious 3-4 inch yellow flesh that is ideal for canning and freezing. Additionally, it makes a stunning fall decoration.

To grow this pumpkin variety, it is recommended to sow the seeds outdoors 2-4 weeks after the average last frost, once soil temperatures have risen above 60°F. Plant the seeds in hills, with 5 seeds per hill, and thin to 3 plants. It is also recommended to stake or trellis the plants for better support.
