Cucurbita pepo is an ideal pumpkin variety for carving during the Halloween season. Its 10-12 inch round to oblong fruits weigh around 10-15 lbs and have a bright orange, hard shell. Not only is it good for carving, but it is also suitable for baking and has a long storage life.

To grow this pumpkin variety, it is recommended to sow the seeds outdoors 2-4 weeks after the average last frost, once soil temperatures have risen above 60°F. Plant the seeds in hills, with 5 seeds per hill, and thin to 3 plants. It is also recommended to stake or trellis the plants for better support.
