This plant can be grown year-round as a houseplant or as an annual shade garden plant (suitable for zones 3-8). It makes an excellent filler in containers or as a colorful bedding plant. Growing it from seed is simple.
To cultivate this plant, direct sowing should be done 1-2 weeks after the average last frost date when the soil temperature is at least 60°F. Alternatively, start the seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the average last frost date. Press the seeds into the soil, but do not cover them with soil as they require light to germinate.
